Dr Aneela Darbar is a senior consultant neurosurgeon at King’s College Hospital, Dubai, UAE. She is a U.S. board-certified neurosurgeon with over 15 years’ experience in complex brain and spine diseases. She specializes in skull base, endoscopic and minimally invasive surgeries. She received her medical degree from Dow University of Health Sciences, Pakistan and then completed the residency training at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse. She did her fellowships in minimally invasive cranial surgery in Sydney, Australia and Skull base at St. Louis University, Missouri.
Previously she worked as Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at St. Louis University and at The Aga Khan University Karachi, where she was also the Program Director for Neurosurgery training program. She then joined Mukhtar A. Sheikh Hospital, Multan as the Medical Director, and Consultant Neurosurgeon. She continues to dedicate her time doing pro-bono surgeries in Pakistan. She has an extensive experience as a teaching faculty and has conducted numerous workshops in Neurosurgery both locally and internationally.
Dr Darbar is a leader and advocate for females in neurosurgery. She is the founding Chair for the Women in Neurosurgery (WIN) in Pakistan. When she started her journey 10 years ago, there were only 5 female neurosurgeons in a country of 250 million population. Now there are more than 60. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of WIN for Asian Congress of Neurosurgeons. She was awarded the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award by Dow Graduate Association, SATHA innovation award, Ponds Miracle women award and was nominated for Teaching and Humanitarian Award, SUNY Syracuse.
