Global Neurosurgery Fellowship

The Tanzania Neurosurgery Project is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate neurosurgeon for a 1–2 year clinical fellowship beginning July 2026. For the past 15 years, this program has strengthened neurosurgical care in Tanzania through a sustainable, multidisciplinary model.

The role

This is a unique “boots-on-the-ground” leadership and clinical fellowship based at MOI in Dar es Salaam. You will live and work alongside Tanzanian neurosurgeons, contributing directly to capacity building and high-acuity patient care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Education & Mentorship — Train local healthcare providers to deliver high-quality neurosurgical care using locally available resources.
  • Program Management — Serve as the primary liaison between the Tanzania-based team and international faculty; support operations, research initiatives, and quality control.
  • Research & Data — Lead management of IRB-approved spine and trauma databases and contribute to joint scientific publications.
  • Clinical Care & Surgery — Participate in a high-volume environment managing complex cranial and spinal cases.

Who we are looking for

  • A Board-certified or Board-eligible neurosurgeon, neurointensivist or orthopedic spine surgeon (US, European).
  • A strong commitment to global health and health equity.
  • Someone adaptable, resourceful, and comfortable working in fast-paced, resource-constrained settings.
  • A mentor at heart—someone who enjoys teaching and empowering local clinicians.

Why Join Us?

This fellowship is more than a training program—it offers:

  • High-volume and high-complexity pathologies
  • Leadership development and program-building skills
  • Cross-cultural clinical immersion
  • Opportunities for impactful global neurosurgery research and publications
  • Life in one of East Africa’s most vibrant coastal cities
