Advancing skills in endoscopic surgery and skull base anatomy
at Wexner Medical Center

Name: Dr. Huy Minh Tran
Home Country: Vietnam
Sponsor: Dr. Daniel Prevedello
Fellowship Training Hospital: Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
Fellowship Overview: Dr. Tran trained and completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City in Southern Vietnam. He traveled to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to complete his fellowship. His fellowship host was Dr. Daniel Prevedello.
The objectives of his fellowship were to learn more about endoscopic surgery including skull base anatomy, the extended EEA, skull base reconstruction, and how to build a skull base surgery program within the constraints of limited resources in Vietnam.
When asked about how the fellowship will support him in contribution to his home country he replied:
The fellowship training experience has been invaluable to me, especially as a young neurosurgeon starting a new career. I have gained not only advanced surgical knowledge from my mentor (Dr Prevedello) but also a deeper understanding of patient care, residency training, and research. His insightful perspective has inspired me to strive for excellence in providing the highest quality care to patients in Vietnam.
When asked what his future plans were regarding a new neurosurgical site and creating infrastructure in Vietnam, Huy Minh responded:
I plan to establish a new pediatric brain tumor program at the Pediatric Hospital. Drawing on my training in endoscopic approaches, I aim to provide comprehensive care for children with brain tumors, including both microsurgical and endoscopic treatment options.
In closing, Dr. Tran wished to wished to acknowledge and thank those that supported his FIENS-Basset Fellowship journey.
I am deeply grateful for the sponsorship and support provided by the FIENS Fellowship Program. The opportunities afforded by the Bassett FIENS fellowship have been invaluable and will have a profound impact on my future practice in Vietnam.
