Fellowship Overview
Dr. Alomari’s two-year fellowship focused on subspecialty training in open skull base microsurgery and complex spine surgery. Under the expert guidance of Prof. Luciano Mastronardi and Dr. Roperto Raffaelo, Dr. Alomari gained extensive hands-on experience in advanced neurosurgical techniques. His daily schedule involved participation in morning skull base surgeries and afternoon complex spine procedures, supplemented by structured academic and clinical learning.
The fellowship also included:
- Weekly Friday case discussion meetings with senior neurosurgeons
- Bi-weekly neuroradiology conferences for multidisciplinary case reviews
- Cadaveric dissection courses every six months to deepen anatomical and surgical understanding
- Daily patient rounds that offered comprehensive exposure to pre- and post-operative care
Dr Alomari completed his neurosurgery residency at King Abdullah University Hospital in northern Jordan, a major referral center for complex neurosurgical cases including spine, pediatric, vascular, oncology, trauma, and functional neurosurgery. His fellowship was undertaken after residency as part of a targeted subspecialty training initiative.
Impact and Reflections
Reflecting on his experience, Dr Alomari shared:
“This fellowship was a transformative period in my career. It significantly elevated my knowledge and technical capabilities in skull base and spine surgery. With the support of my mentors and FIENS, I’ve returned to Jordan fully equipped to establish and lead a skull base neurosurgery service at my hospital. Within just three months, we’ve achieved a wide range of successful outcomes and helped expand access to advanced neurosurgical care in the region.”
Future Plans
Dr Alomari has already taken significant steps to enhance neurosurgical infrastructure in Jordan. He is actively building new services and expanding the scope of operations performed at his hospital, aiming to position his institution as a national center for skull base surgery.
Dr. Alomari expressed heartfelt thanks to FIENS for making this opportunity possible and is committed to continuing the mission of improving neurosurgical care in underserved areas.
Congratulations to Dr Alomari!
