Community Neurosurgery Initiative

The Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery (FIENS) Community Neurosurgery Initiative (CNI) offers an international traveling fellowship for neurosurgeons who, at the time of their application, are either training in a residency program in a low or middle income country or who have completed residency training in a low or middle income country within the past five years. Upon the completion of this fellowship they must be returning to practice in their home country.

The fellowship will cover the traveling and living expenses for a three-six-month period to be spent observing the activities of a neurosurgical service that has an established relationship with FIENS. The fellowship will be awarded yearly on the basis of a competitive evaluation by a committee composed of FIENS members. The maximum fellowship stipend is $4,000.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis with a review period occurring in May 2027. The application link will be open May 2026. Applicants will receive notification of their application results within 4-6 weeks of the cycle closing date.

"We are pleased to open this fellowship to give young neurosurgeons from across the globe to advance their training. This is an excellent opportunity together with FIENS to advance neurosurgical care for communities around the world by facilitating collaboration and training with enthusiastic young neurosurgeons."
